Travel by AC vehicle to the city of Abu Simbel. Abu Simbel is situated in the south of Aswan on the western bank of the Nile. The site was known as Meha in ancient times.
Take a trip to the Abu Simbel temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The twin temples were originally carved out of the mountainside in 13th century BC during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II. In the 1257 BC, Pharaoh Ramses II had two temples carved out of solid rock at a site on the west bank of the Nile. Because of their remote location near the Sudanese border in southern Egypt, the temples were unknown until the rediscovery in 1813.
These Egyptian temples were at risk of being submerged under water in the 1960s, but with help from UNESCO, Egyptologists and antiquity experts, the two temples were dismantled and raised over 60 meters on the sandstone cliff where they had been built more than 3,000 years before.
To the north of the temple, a smaller temple was built in honor of Ramses’ great wife, Nefertari, and the goddess Hathor.
After the tour is finished, we will transfer you back to your hotel.
